Q: What are Contacts Lens (Contacts)?
Corrective, cosmetic, or therapeutic lenses placed on the cornea of the eye generally serving the same purpose as conventional glasses.
Q: What's in a contact lens?
The two main types today are gas permeable (GP), and soft lenses.
GP lenses are made of a firm (not hard), durable plastic that transmits oxygen.
Soft lenses are made of a gel-like plastic that contains as much as 79% water.
Today’s contact lenses are lightweight, versatile, more healthful, and often disposable offering many choices for a variety of vision correction needs. Compared with glasses, contacts are less affected by wet weather, do not steam up, offer a wider field of vision, and are particularly helpful for ophthalmologic conditions such as keratoconus and aniseikonia. For those who are involved with sports, theater, and other activities where glasses are impractical, contact lenses effectively provide the necessary vision correction and are undetectable.
At OPI, we offer the latest types of soft contact lenses: daily wear, extended wear, astigmatic (toric), multifocal, and bifocal.
